LEFT HAND

On Tuesday the 9th of December while I worked at my regular shift as a warehouse volunteer at a food charity in North London I suddenly had the sensation that my left arm no longer belonged to me – was no longer under my conscious control. It sagged and dangled, the fingers wouldn’t do what I tried to get them to do – to grip, to get a grip on themselves.
It felt as if someone had swapped my hand for a rubber one from a joke shop.
This was my hand. It was joined to me but it wasn’t joining in any more.
